My
name is Emily McQueen, and my path into the field of visual
impairments has been shaped by curiosity, resilience, and an unwavering
commitment to making education more accessible for all learners. My journey
began during my undergraduate years at Kutztown University in Pennsylvania,
where I earned my degree as a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments
(TSVI). But the foundation for this work began even earlier, during my first year
of college, long before I fully understood how transformative this field would
become for me.
I originally enrolled at Lebanon Valley College with the intention of
majoring in early childhood education. I loved the idea of supporting young
learners and helping to build their earliest educational experiences. Yet, as I
progressed through my first year, I began to sense that I wanted something more
that allowed me to both teach and advocate, something that challenged me to think
