Based on this research and experience, a sensory based reading
group was created in one of the 2-5 grade classrooms and has been
extremely successful for learners at a variety of levels. We have added two
students with hearing impairments, and an educational interpreter to help
meet their needs. Because of this input, all students and adults involved in
the group have grown ASL vocabularies as well! We have seen students
increase engagement and grow vocabulary, learn ASL, take standardized
