grow and students with visual impairments are currently underrepresented in
these STEM fields. This issue will focus a spotlight on some of the programs
and activities that attempt to make STEM concepts more accessible to
students with visual impairments; thereby, creating more STEM success for
them.
The issue begins with an article by another veteran science educator
and TVI who had the amazing opportunity to work with NASA to open up the
world of astronomy to students with visual impairments. Also in this issue are
articles about adapting materials and programming to increase accessibility of
math and science. Additionally, articles related to technology include
improving computer science access, a new certification program for assistive
technology specialists and a book review about teaching iOS to students with
visual impairments.
I would like to thank all the contributors for their excellent articles and
their excitement about sharing their work with our readers. Together we can
open up the STEM fields for our students and prepare them for new and
exciting future careers. I hope that you enjoy reading this issue as much as I
enjoyed putting it together!
