Upon becoming credentialed to work in the Illinois early intervention system, the number of O&Ms will increase from 4 to 9 providers, representing more than a 100% increase in providers. The number of TVIs working in early intervention will increase by 33%, from 24 to 32. Through these additional providers, increasing numbers of young children with visual impairments in Illinois will receive quality early intervention services. Ultimately, the goal of the EL VISTA™ program is to achieve an adequately-staffed and highly-qualified early intervention workforce. The OSEP-funded EL VISTA™ program at Illinois State University is attempting to help in those efforts. The services have the potential to provide a life-long impact to infants and toddlers with vision loss and their families. 49
