When looking at fluency, it is important to remember that just as a teacher would select predictable texts with sighted students, the same applies with braille readers (Swenson, 2011). An example of such text could be, "Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed" (Christelow, 2011). In this activity the student builds upon their fluency skills through repetition within the story as well as the recognition of sight words. Familiar and repetitive texts are also useful in teaching braille readers contractions, because they are used several times within the same text. For example, "little" is used on almost every page of the story noted earlier. 25
