In addition, only half of the survey respondents felt that they received adequate instruction in Nemeth Code and teaching mathematics to students with visual impairments in their TVI programs. However, 74% of respondents felt confident in teaching the Nemeth Code to students with visual impairments out in the field. The abacus is a useful calculation tool whether used alone or in conjunction with other devices because of speed, accuracy, portability, and flexibility.
