As mentioned above the Unified English Braille online training is a project funded by the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services to help existing professionals get their braille skills updated for the changed code. As a 5-year project we are producing a free, just in time tool that will be offered monthly to help professionals get the information they need in an online class with options for continuing education and college credit. Work is moving forward in 3D printing as well and I am collaborating with colleagues in another state to explore how to design objects to improve learning for students who are blind and visually impaired in science topics. The applications of 3D printing to our field are very diverse, but unfortunately even general education has poorly defined standards for the design of physical learning objects.
