I returned from CEC's annual Leadership Institute earlier this month
refreshed and inspired to be more involved in our organization. As President-Elect
of DVIDB, I was invited to attend along with other CEC Unit and Division
Presidents, Presidents-Elect, Treasurers, and Membership Chairs. Each year
Division and Unit Leadership come together with other senior CEC volunteers to
become more effective leaders. We participate in interactive presentations,
conversations, real-time collaboration, and opportunities to network. We learn
about all aspects of organization, including finance, membership, professional
development, marketing, communications, and branding. We learn more about
CEC and the direction the organization is taking. Most importantly, we energize
each other as volunteer leaders. My experience at the Leadership Institute has me
reflecting on my own reasons for becoming involved in DVIDB. It also
encouraged me reflect on the importance of nurturing new leaders and maintaining
a thriving leadership pipeline for DVIDB to ensure we are able to continue the
