the Visual Impairment/Deafblindness Program at
the University of Alabama in Birmingham. In fact,
Cristal White Smith received the Special Education
Alumni Award in 2011.
The little spare time that Ms. Smith has is
dedicated to several different volunteer activities.
Not only does she donate time to work in indigant
eye care clinics, but she also designed a weekend
camp to help local Boy Scouts earn their disabilities
badge.
According to Dr. Mary Jean Sanspree, Her
enthusiasm for learning and teaching are superior
to others and her dedication to her students is a
love of the parents and families she serves. It is
evident that Cristal White Smith is a role model to
all teachers of students with visual impairments.
